This year's IFE AGM and Conference was held at Birmingham University on July 20-22 on the theme of Design, Manage and Intervene: Innovative Fire Risk Solutions, and included the incoming President's vision for a more inclusive and influential Institution, as well as a controversial comment from the ODPM's Clive Norris

THE IFE'S 82ND AGM SAW THE investiture of David Charters as the new International President, taking over from William Peterson, with emphasis on strategic alliances, and a focus on inclusion, recognition and global influence.

Strategic Alliances

In his address Mr Peterson drew attention to the many changes the Institution has seen over the last year, not least the relocation to the Fire Service College to share accommodation with the Fire Protection Association. A relationship, he said, that had naturally taken time to bed down. The advantages of the move have begun to manifest themselves, he asserted, principal being for members visiting the college to drop in and meet Institution staff. …
