Celebrating ten years of fire research.(Conference Preview)

ON OCTOBER 11-13 THE FIRE Service College will celebrate the tenth anniversary of its annual conference on Fire-Related Research and Developments (RE05). It all started with a Research Event on November 28, 1996. The College mounted a small scale meeting with invited participants to test out an idea. The idea was that there would be interest in and benefit from bringing together people from the Fire Service, the Fire Industry, the Universities and Government Research Institutions who were research active and/or interested in the application of research in the broad area of fire, protection, rescue and emergency response.

The response was very positive and the College was encouraged to develop the concept and to mount a meeting in 1997, open to anyone interested. Over the last ten years, the event has developed in size and scope and the 2005 meeting will once again be very wide ranging and exciting.

Conference Format

The format has developed over the years but still retains the core of keynote speakers in plenary sessions with parallel sessions of very wide scope with operational and technical contributions balancing input on legal social, behavioural and managerial issues. …
