* The seventh annual convention of the IFE was recently held in Leicester. All delegates considered the meeting a huge success. A new record was set for attendance of members and municipal delegations, The papers presented were all considered era very high standard. In his opening address the Lord Mayor of Leicester made a strong appeal for the teaching of fire prevention in all state schools, such teaching to be undertaken by fire officers.

* The City of Portsmouth is the latest local authority to demonstrate to the government and the nation at large that the provision of adequate fire protection has passed beyond the means of the local rate payer. The duty of preventing and combating fires devolves on the central government as well as the local government. …
