The government believes a new centre in Wiltshire will improve call processing

Wiltshire fire brigade has admitted it will have to quit the new shared 999 control centre because of plans to create a regional call hub.

Communications for all three emergency services in the county have been based at a centre in Devizes since 2003.

But the government wants to bring the fire control rooms for Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Avon, Somerset, Dorset and Devon and Cornwall under one roof. The FBU fears it may lead to delays in calls being answered. This comes as Gloucestershire's control centre has been deemed a CE model for joint working.

The Audit Commission has thrown a spanner in the works with the release of its independent, post evaluation report for the Gloucestershire TriService Emergency Centre (GTEC), which details how collaborative working has been achieved to a CEvery high standard, and should be viewed as a CEmodel for joint working, (see pg 31). …
