Resolution over shift patterns.(News)

An agreement has been reached between West Midlands Fire Service and the Fire Brigades Union over proposed changes to shift patterns, following 16 hours of talks.

Extensive negotiations had been taking place between the two organisations recently at West Midlands Fire Service Headquarters in Birmingham, where an independent Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) was brought in to help reach an agreement.

The union was given 14 days to consult its members, where it will recommend acceptance. If firefighters now accept their union's recommendation, the new shift patterns will be implemented as planned, with effect from September 2005. The agreement is as follows:
