Fire engine for Tsunami stricken Sri Lanka.(News)

A decommissioned fire engine is now on its way to Tsunami stricken Sri Lanka after being donated by Hereford and Worcester Fire Brigade in response to a London Fire Brigade coordinated appeal.

Replacement fire engines and surplus equipment are still desperately needed in areas hit hardest and where appliances were either lost or destroyed in the Boxing Day disaster. Cllr. Paul Sathianesan of Newham Council approached London Fire Brigade Commissioner Ken Knight asking for his help with the appeal from the Sri Lankan government.

Hereford and Worcester Fire Brigade had a decommissioned D-reg fire engine which had been destined for Chernobyl until the fire service in Ukraine decided it did not want a left-hand drive vehicle. …
