Top honour for Cheshire Fire Chief.(Round-Up)

Cheshire's Chief Fire Officer has been granted a top award in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.

Steve McGuirk, who has been in charge of the service since 1999, has been made a Commander of the British Empire. Steve said he was "surprised and extremely honoured" to have been nominated for the honour.

Paying tribute, Cheshire Fire Authority Chairman Cllr John Joyce, said: "I am particularly pleased for Steve as an individual--the promise and potential he showed when we first appointed him as a Deputy Chief Fire Officer has really been demonstrated since he took over leadership of the service.

"This prestigious honour is just reward for the hard work and dedication he has shown and it also reflects well on Cheshire Fire Service as a whole which has gained a national reputation for good practice and innovation in recent years. …
