Firefighter is Public Servant of the Year 2005.(News)

Ken Hunter, Watch Manager with West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, is celebrating after he was named the UK's Outstanding Public Servant of the Year 2005.

Ken, who is due to retire this month after almost 27 years as a firefighter, also won the Making a Difference to People category--the award for social inclusion--at the fifth National Public Servants of the Year Awards held in London's Grosvenor House Hotel. Ken was short listed as a finalist from more than 180 individual entries to this year's awards and out of more than 400 entries in total. He automatically became a contender for the prestigious Outstanding Public Servant of the Year title--sponsored by Zurich Municipal--after winning his category award. …
