* CFO N Musslewhite of Somerset Fire Brigade received a report which read as follows "Station ... report an accident to their water tender whilst being driven by Fireman ... at approximately 1240 today whilst proceeding to afire. The appliance came into collision with a bullock, causing damage to the front nearside indicator and headlamp surround of the appliance. No apparent damage to the bullock. Owner of the bullock will be contacting the station this evening to confirm any damage".

* The Fire Service National Benevolent Fund had a record income for the year 1979. Income reached 845,752 [pounds sterling] and the fund will be able to increase its financial help to orphans and widows. Orphans allowances are to be increased to 2 [pounds sterling] per week with a clothing grant on the 11th and 13th birthdays of 20 [pounds sterling] and 40 [pounds sterling] respectively. …
