Major mill blaze in Shelf, Halifax.(Incident Reports)

More than 100 firefighters tackled a fierce blaze that resulted in a Victorian Mill having to be demolished.

A fire that started in the machinery used in the building, spread rapidly on the afternoon of February 23 and when the first firefighters from Odsal station arrived, they found huge flames and smoke billowing from the three-storey building.

All staff who worked at the building for Decosol, a company that produces screen wash, aerosols and other car-care products, safely evacuated the building. Throughout the afternoon and into the night firefighters from Odsal, Halifax, Brighouse, Elland, Illingworth, Bradford, Fairweather Green, Cleckheaton, Huddersfield, Bingley, Dewsbury and Stanningley fought to bring the blaze under control

Houses nearby were evacuated due to the concern surrounding six tanks situated just yards away from the blazing building containing approximately 60,000 litres of ethanol. …
