Youth dies in Sunderland fire appliance crash.(Incident Reports)

A teenager has died after he apparently stepped into the path of a fire engine answering an emergency call.

Police said two Tyne and Wear Fire Brigade engines, with their lights and sirens on, were answering the call a month ago.

A spokesman said as they travelled across Queen Alexandra Bridge, in Sunderland, a 17-year-old youth stepped into the path of the second engine. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Sunderland Royal Hospital A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "For reasons yet to be established, a 17-year-old male, who was in the company of two females, stepped from the west side walkway into the path of the second of the two appliances resulting in fatal injuries. …
