* The Rt. Hon. J R Clynes MP, Secretary of State for the Home Department, recently received a deputation from the IFE. The deputation was led by Mr Mothers, MP for West Edinburgh and consisted of the Chief Officer of Manchester who is also President of the IFE, the Chief Officer of Bristol, the Chief Officer of West Ham, the Chief Officer of Leicester, the Chief Officer of Liverpool and the recently retired Chief Officer of Edinburgh.

* The purpose of the deputation was to stress to the Home Secretary the need to adopt recommendations contained in the report of the Royal Commission for Fire Brigades dated 1923.

* The deputation pointed out to the Home Secretary that direct fire losses for 1929 were estimated at more than 15m [pounds sterling] and loss of human life more than 800. …
