Scottish college launch safety elearning module.(Training)

As previewed in the last issue, the Scottish Fire Services College (SFSC) has launched the community fire safety elearning module into the UK Fire and Rescue Service. The module provides firefighters with the associated knowledge and understanding required to successfully deliver community fire safety messages, and a resource for the effective delivery of the subject to the general public.

TO SOME, THE TERM ELEARNING conjures up images of over the top graphics and endless pages of text. The SFSC's online modules will challenge that misconception. One of the main aims of the college's training and development strategy is the focus on learning content. This is a major turnaround with regards to how other colleges have progressed their elearning capabilities.

Rather than be technology led, which is the typical choice of many colleges and elearning providers, "our approach to elearning was to capture the learning and conceptualise the teaching activities to make them interactive and challenging for the learner," says Jim Robson, Principal of the SFSC. …
