Keeping up with fire investigation.

The Fire and Rescue Services Act 2004, now gives every UK F&RS the power to conduct investigations into the causes and origins of fire.

This change in policy increases the need for properly trained professionals in this area. From April 2005, the FSC will be introducing two new fire investigation programmes--the Fire Investigation and Forensic Awareness for Supervisory Managers Programme and the Fire Investigation Maintenance Programme.

Effective fire investigation must be carried out in a structured and scientific manner following similar techniques used by forensic scientists. A thorough knowledge of fire, fire behaviour and the effects of fire on different structures and materials is essential. …
