High volume pumps score a first in Carlisle.

New high volume pumping (HVP) equipment based at the FSC saw action in an emergency for the first time between 9-11 January. Gold Command in Cumbria called for nine HVPs to help in the cleanup operation, which followed the worst floods in Carlisle for almost 200 years.

The HVPs, which can each extract and move up to 420,000 litres per hour, were used to pump out the main electricity sub-station, the sewage station and a flooded underpass in Carlisle. …
