Latest school fire hits special needs kids: a fire at the special needs Fiveways School in Yeovil caused extensive damage to seven classrooms before crews prevented further spread to a new building under construction.(Incident Report)

ON JANUARY 21 AT 1820 Somerset Fire and Rescue Service was called to a fire in a classroom at Fiveways School, Victoria Road Yeovil.

On arrival fire crews from Yeovil Fire Station were confronted with a rapidly developing fire in classroom number 6. Fiveways School consists of single storey classrooms that link around a central courtyard. The fire spread at roof void level and because of the layout of the building affected the roof voids of adjoining classrooms.

Ten appliances from Yeovil, Crewkerne, Martock, Somerton, Castle Cary, Chard and Sherbourne, with supporting vehicles from Yeovil and Ilminster, and a total of 70 firefighters, were needed to deal with the blaze. …
