* Chief Officer J C Phillips Taylor contributed a long and detailed article to this months FIRE regarding his views reference breathing apparatus. Mr Phillips Taylor notes the increase in the use of BA even in the smaller brigades and the common practice of having small well trained teams of BA wearers constantly available. He wonders if the day is not soon coming when all firemen regardless of the size of the brigade and the potential fire risks surrounding their station will require training in BA.

* The Mayor of Stockport has unveiled a memorial to the late Howard Beckwith. Mr Beckwith was for a number of years the Chief Officer of Stockport Fire Brigade. He was killed on the eve of his retirement when the fire engine in which he was riding in crashed through Wellington Brigade, Stockport to the street below. …
