* It is reported that the City of Birmingham has recently suffered its worst night of fires since the war. Three fires in five hours resulting in total damage estimated in excess of 440,000 [pounds sterling]. Crews were committed from all 19 of the cities fire stations and nearly three miles of delivery hose were laid.

* At the recent parade of Lancashire Auxiliary Firefighters, CFO Joseph Clitherow OBE MIFireE congratulated the auxiliaries on their performance and commitment. He said: "Some of you have sacrificed the opportunity to earn additional money by working overtime so that you could attend these drills. Self denial of this nature is typical of the NFS and its esprit de corps. …
