Retirement of longest-serving CFO in the Fire Service.(People)

Jeffrey Goddard was born in Sale, Cheshire in 1944 close to a fire station at which his father had worked Since before World War II. After a stint in the merchant navy Jeff joined the Fire Service in 1964 and was posted to Sale Fire Station, taking up a position on his father's old watch. He was only the second recruit in Cheshire to not have done National Service and represented the fresh beginning for the recruitment of younger people into the Service. In 1975 he was successful in obtaining promotion and a transfer to Greater Manchester Fire Station and served as Station Commander at Oldham, Chadderton and Heywood Fire Stations specialising in operational response in this very difficult area, before moving into Fire Service HQ as Staff Officer. …
