* Chief Officer JW Dane MIFireE of Croydon Fire Brigade contributed a long and detailed article to FIRE concerning safety in electrical power houses. Mr Dane notes: "... where it is proposed to install carbon tetra--chloride (CTC) firefighters must be protected from the fumes ... where possible special training should be given to certain firemen concerning the risks of CTC, they should keep breathing apparatus sets ready for use'.

* Following the recent retirement of Mr Edgar Evans as Chief Officer of Swansea Fire Brigade, the chief constable has recommended changes in appointing a successor to Mr Evans. In his report the chief constable notes: "the modern fire officer and fireman, to be deemed efficient, should be the holder of a diploma from the Institution of Fire Engineers. …
