VT Group has expanded its support services activities in firefighting training by signing a contract to build, operate and maintain a new centre in South Wales.

The 70m [pounds sterling] contract strengthens VT's position as the UK's leading PFI provider of firefighting training services and follows a similar project for the Somerset, Avon and Gloucestershire brigades. Both projects contract VT Group to build, operate and maintain the centres for a 25-year period.

Construction of the South Wales Centre at Cardiff Gate will start shortly. As with Avonmouth, the project will see VT provide the finance in return for a long-term commitment from the customer, who will use the centre for an agreed number of student days per year. …
