Q: What aspect of modernisation do you believe is the most important?

A: The fundamental shift to recognising that prevention in the true sense of the word is now a core element of Fire Service activity. It has been seen in the last few years, by some, as peripheral and it is very pleasing indeed to see safety as a mainstream service.

Q: What initiative, that you have undertaken in the last six months, do you believe has been the most effective in increasing the safety of your community?

A: The development of the new concept of an 'outreach fire station'. Although these vehicles are not yet operational, I believe they will mark a steep change in the way we engage in 'at risk' communities--as those communities change. …
