Initiatives make Surrey's communities safer.(Community Safety)

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service recently held a seminar entitled Modernisation of the Fire Service attended by borough and district councils, Surrey County Council and other stakeholders including Surrey Police and Surrey Ambulance Service.

Chaired by Surrey County Council's Executive Portfolio holder for Community Safety, James Smith, the seminar gave both existing and potential partners an insight into the wide range of activities undertaken by Surrey's modern fire fighters. Initiatives highlighted over the day included education, youth partnerships, the work of the Arson Task Force, the Firewise scheme, smoke detector partnerships, sprinklers, and special services carried out by the service encompassing water, line and animal rescue.

DCFO Ray Bosdet said: "The common perception of the Fire Service is literally firefighting The seminar enabled us to demonstrate what we do on top of this vital intervention work such as working with young offenders and school children, participating in crime reduction partnerships and holding voluntary run schemes such as the Young Firefighters Association. …
