Community safety first for Birmingham.(Community Safety)

Birmingham is celebrating after becoming the first city in the country to successfully achieve a Public Service Agreement focussed on reducing fire-related incidents and problems. The PSA delivered multi-agency risk assessments to 10,000 homes in six months resulting in 279 fewer fires, 70 fewer injuries and 20 fewer deaths than the baseline figures that went to setting the targets.

Public Service Agreements (PSAs) are a government initiative designed to challenge local authorities to increase their efficiency and effectiveness through the adoption of 'stretched' performance targets by developing new and better ways of tackling old problems.
