75 years ago: July 1929.(Looking Back)

* In July 1929 FIRE cost 8d (3.5p), annual subscription was 9s 6d (45p).

* Chief Surgeon Gilbert Burnet MC of the National Fire Brigades Association criticises any move by hospital staff toward self-regulation against fire precautions. Mr Burnet says: "I am firmly of the opinion that the only person qualified by training and skill to shoulder the grave responsibility of preventing and extinguishing outbreaks of fires in hospitals is the local fire chief".

* Four pages of the July 1929 issue are given over to detailed specifications regarding 'Allweather Motor Pumps' and the advantages to the crew and hence their efficiency.
