Eric Foster, who will celebrate his Golden Wedding anniversary with his wife, Faith, this year, joined the Divisional Fire Service in 1941 as a messenger boy. A year later he joined the NFS, with a wartime occupation as a centre lathe turner. Sadly, in 1943, Eric badly damaged his left hand in an accident with a lathe, tie was, however, following numerous operations. able to continue in the service as a Control Operator until the end of the war.

Eric managed a full life with his disability but, ill recent years, he has suffered with circulation problems in both legs and now has very poor mobility. In fact, he now finds it difficult to walk just 20 yards. Eric decided that if he were to continue to be able to get around and remain independent, he would need to get an electric scooter. …
