Smoke alarm voted top innovation since the 80s.(News)

The simple smoke alarm has been voted the best innovation in the last 20 years according to a survey published this week. Life saving smoke alarms were considered to be more important than modern day essential gadgets such as mobile phones, cash cards and digital cameras.

More than 1,900 adults were asked what they thought was the greatest innovation. The survey was carried out on behalf of on line bank Cahoot. Sixty nine per cent of the respondents rated the smoke alarm the best innovation over the last 20 years.

Over the last two decades the UK Fire and Rescue Service has consistently promoted the benefits of having at least one working smoke alarm in every home and has taken part in some innovative mass installation schemes. …
