MP praises innovative partnership pilot to develop young people: Redcar MP Vera Baird recently met the final group of students to take part in a high-profile pilot partnership project organised by Cleveland Fire Brigade to develop potential in young people in the community.(Training)

The MP presented certificates at the passing out parade of the last students taking part in the Local Intervention and Fire Education scheme, (LIFE), at Cleveland Fire Brigade's Training Centre, at Grangetown.

Ms Baird congratulated young people, aged between 13 and 17 years, who have completed the intensive five-day work experience course, based on operational firefighting duties, as part of a three month pilot organised by the brigade in partnership with Fairbridge Teesside, South Tees Youth Offending Service and Safe in Tees Valley.

The local MP learned that four courses were planned for the pilot project, providing training and development opportunities to encourage teenage boys and girls to make the most of their physical and mental capabilities and to become responsible, safer and caring members of society. …
