Strategic challenge for chief officers.(CFOA AGM)

The final Chief and Assistant Chief Fire Officers Association celebrated its 30th birthday with a name change and by accepting a significant strategic challenge at its AGM held in Chester last month. Concerns on name changes were superseded by accelerated reform within its own ranks and to complete the restructuring to meet the challenges of modernisation and ensure the new Chief Fire Officers Association plays a major role in "setting the agenda" as 'the professional voice of the UK Fire and Rescue Service'

"The association faces its greatest ever challenge and that challenge is in play now and we are rising to it," CFOA President Alan Doig told members at the AGM in Chester. Alignment and focus on the big issues was the key theme, supported by a common purpose and direction using a business stream approach and the employment of a chief executive.

Speaking on behalf of the board, Mr Doig declared "our absolute resolve to listen to the views of members, respond positively and assuredly to meet the challenge we jointly face, in full measure. …
