Systemglas creates stimulating conditions for White City.(Buyer's Guide)

The BBC is creating a 'media village' on the famous Wood Lane site, part of a huge regeneration of the area that also draws in leisure and retail developments The BBC White City development involves eight new buildings, including a 42,000 sq m broadcast centre, a media centre of 42,000 sq m and a music centre of 6,500 sq m. In its design intent, the corporation says it wants to make sure staff have the best possible creative and stimulating conditions.

Allies and Morrison Architects have created a frameless, glazed cavity wall between the digital television playout suites and the adjacent atria. Promat's tire-rated Systemglas forms the inner element of that structure. Traditionally, these would be artificially lit internal spaces, but thanks to Systemglas, the architects were able to take a radical new approach, allowing the ambient light conditions to permeate the playout suites. …
