'The first meeting of the Business and Community Safety Forum was launched by Nick Raynsford on 27 November. The Forum has wide terms of reference which enable it to respond to requests for advice but also to raise independent matters of concern to the Minister. Advice will specifically centre on the Fire and Rescue Service but also, importantly, fire matters in general, its members cover a wide spectrum, from business and commercial interests (including fire protection specialists) to those representing special needs in our communities.

'Risk assessment and risk management are now at the centre of fire safety: for the Fire and Rescue Service, under the new Fire and Rescue Services Bill, the development of Integrated Risk Management Plans and a duty to promote fire safety in the community; for employers, under the Regulatory Reform Order, an obligation to provide a safe place of work. …
