Arson focus: 9 million [pounds sterling] boost for the fight against arson.

New and innovative projects across the country aimed at tackling the growing menace of arson will receive more than 9 million [pounds sterling] of funding over three years.

The funding comes from the Government's 43 million [pounds sterling] three-year investment in community fire safety and arson reduction in England and Wales, reinforcing a greater emphasis on prevention work as set out in the Fire and Rescue Services Bill. Arson control is a key element of this strategy and the wider modernisation agenda of the Service.

The arson prevention programme, which aims to reduce the number of deliberate fires by 10 per cent by 31 March 2010, receives strategic direction from the Arson Control Forum. …
