University of Salford.(People)

The University of Salford has recently awarded Mr George Almond an honorary Degree of Master of Science, in recognition of his service to his country in his capacity as the former County Fire Officer and Chief Executive of Greater Manchester Fire Service.

He was awarded the degree by the Chancellor of the university, Sir Walter Bodmer, at a recent graduation ceremony held at the Lowry Centre in Salford.

This is the second honorary degree Mr Almond has been awarded, having also been awarded an Honorary Fellowship by Bolton Institute in 2000, for his valuable contribution to the local and regional community.

Mr Almond retired two years ago, having served for 40 years in the Fire Service, the last 20 of which were in Greater Manchester. …
