Firefighters from the Brigade Training Centre at Portreath, near Redruth in Cornwall, followed in illusionist David Blaine's footsteps just before Christmas by arranging for one of their number, Lee Griffin, to spend 44 hours in a perspex box suspended four metres above ground. David Blaine, who spent 44 days in his box, did his as a publicity stunt, Lee, however, did it in aid of his favourite charity, the FSNBF. He commented, 'I am sure there are easier ways of raising money, but I wanted to do something novel!"
