* Claimed as their first female retained firefighter, the village of Pill in Avon looked forward to welcoming Marylyn Ackerman, although it was reported that two male retained members resigned. It was pointed out that she was a previous carnival queen and would have to share changing and shower facilities! The photo showing her giving an army salute with the wrong hand did nothing for expectations!

* Humberside illustrated their new rescue tender, CKH964T, which had been fitted out by Anglo Coachbuilders. It would carry a crew of six, based at Goole, to protect the M 18 and the M62.

* Fife FB announced a new RV, built by HCB Angus on a Chrsyler/Dodge W400 chassis, powered by a V8 petrol engine. …
