Many groups, including CACFOA, have high ambitions for the programme of Fire Service reform. Challenging as it is, the changes introduced to date and planned for the future, have the broad aim of improving public safety from fire and other emergencies, through the provision of efficient, high performing fire and rescue services, argues the President

The aim is bold and clear. History will provide an unambiguous assessment of success; the measure of which will be equally clear. But the aim set out cannot be addressed by simply reforming the fire and rescue services. Essential to improvements in public safety will be the ability and capacity for the fire and rescue services to make a full, professional, contribution to the wider agendas of social inclusion and cohesion. …
