Wordlywide: the 8th World Firefighters Games will be hosted by the UK this year with the FSNBF as one of its official charities. Taking place between 28th August and 4th September 2004 in Sheffield, the event will provide a fantastic week of sports and social highlights for the world's firefighters and their families.

The bi-annual event, which took place in New Zealand in 2002, will have two other charities on board--the Children s Fire & Burn Trust and the British Burns Association--and has started recruiting for participants to take on the challenge of the 59 different sports (830 events) on offer.

The Games have rightly grown in reputation since they began nearly twenty years ago. Their illustrious path has taken them around the world and given firefighters the wonderful opportunity to get together with like minded colleagues from different cultures and countries to take part in what is, for many, the highlight of their sporting and social calendar.

The event is a festival of sport, but it is not just about winning medals. …
