UK responds to massive earthquake in Iran.(News)

Boxing Day saw an earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale strike the city of Bam, Kerman Province in south-eastern Iran. The earthquake destroyed more than 60 per cent of the city's buildings and its 2,000-year-old mediaeval fortress. More than 30,000 people were killed by the earthquake and approximately 100,000 were made homeless, while authorities estimate that the final death toll may be as high as 50,000.

The International community, including the UK, responded immediately, sending rescue teams and aid to Iran. The UK response included teams from UKFSSART team comprising personnel from Hampshire, Kent and Essex and personnel from RAPID, BIRD, IRC and CANIS--67 people in all. …
