Lifetime Achievement Award.(People)

Former Fire Service College Commandant Terry Glossop has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the British Fire Protection Systems Association for services rendered to the fire safety community--the first award of its kind.

Mr Glossop began his career in the Fire Services in 1964 as an operational fireman in North Wales. He became Deputy Chief Fire Officer and County Emergency Planning Officer at the Lincolnshire Fire Authority between 1984-1988, before moving to Gwent as Chief Fire officer in 1988 and served in that capacity until 1996.

In 1996, he joined the Fire Service College as Commandant and subsequently took the post of Chief Executive in 1997.

In his citation BFPSA Chair Derek Harrington said: "Trading losses turned into trading surpluses, short term debts were paid off, positive cash flows and surplus balances around 7m [pounds sterling] were achieved and sustained. …
