Defence Fire Service: the future on hold?(MOD Conference)

The MOD Defence Fire Service's first conference for four years was held at the Zurich Training and Development Centre, Swindon on October 30-31. It provided for plenty of debate on the Airfield Support Services Project, vis-a-vis the DFS's own Fire Study 2000 Report, plus a round-up of DFS activities; proving it is anything but dormant as it awaits the formal announcement on its future direction, be it in the private or public sector

The conference was opened by CFO Bill Holliman who expanded on the theme for the event "Challenge of Change" during his opening address and welcome to all delegates and guest speakers.

Attending as the principal guest and speaker, the MODs' Personnel Director and Head of Corporate Services, which includes safety,--Richard Hatfield, provided a view of how change had affected the MOD and how change was continuing to impact on MOD's business outputs.

In his presentation on DFS achievements, Dr Geoff Hooper cited Fire study 2000--a considerable proposal that vouched for a progressive DFS. …
