Young firefighter of the year: Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service has nominated Tom Horrocks for the accolade of Young Firefighter of the Year, in recognition of his bravery and determination in overcoming his own personal difficulties and establishing himself firmly as part of the YFA.(Community Safety)(Young Firefighters Association)

Tom Horrocks, aged 15 years, from Ascot Close, Stratford upon Avon has a rare genetic disorder and needs supervision when carrying out various tasks.

His proud parents Doug, retained fire fighter at Stratford upon Avon Fire Station, and wife Sally were told by doctors when Tom was very young that he may not live to five years of age, be able to walk or stand, Obviously he has far exceeded doctors' initial expectations!

After completing and thoroughly enjoying one week's work experience at Leamington Spa Fire Station, Doug asked his Sin Cmdr Jim Beeston if Tom could work/drill with the firefighters at Stratford upon Avon. When Tom started this he began to increase his self esteem and confidence. …
