New dimension exercise: Convoy Lake. August 30, 2003 is complete: Hampshire Fire and Rescue and Hampshire Constabulary recently carried out a major exercise to test the service's convoy, welfare, and communication procedures. The exercise involved moving a large convoy across Hampshire under 'blue light' conditions.(major exercise)(Brief Article)

The exercise commenced with a 'no notice' alert and assembled at Eastleigh fire headquarters. The convoy moved off under police motorcycle escort, the route only being released to the drivers prior to 'startex'. The route took in a variety of roads, the M27 and M3 motorways, and several 'A' roads, a driver change over at the Fleet motorway sentences, before arriving at the Royal Engineers camp at Frimley Lakes.

A large number of observers from other fire services and emergency planning organisations watched the exercise.

The exercise provided an ideal opportunity to demonstrate Hampshire's New Dimensions mass decontamination equipment before the audience of observers and firefighters. …
