Mr Richardson's team is tasked with Ensuring current ageing Fire Service radio systems continue to operate effectively until the Firelink solution is fully rolled out in 2007, as well as implementing some level of same service interoperability within the Fire Service until this is provided by Firelink.

The first step in ensuring that the Service's existing systems continue to operate reliably was to conduct a risk assessments of brigades' existing systems identifying high risk elements that would impact on operational effectiveness. A high risk is defined as any element on the system that would severely compromise operational effectiveness should it fail, such as a hilltop link site. …
