The article also questions the wisdom of fire crews dressing into firefighting uniform en mute to incidents. A comparison is undertaken between street fire alarms and the 999 telephone system. The anonymous author concludes that the 999 telephone system comes a poor second.

* Durham County Council recently held its Annual Fire Brigades efficiency tests. The overall winners were a crew from Bishops Auckland. Crews taking part represented nine local government fire brigades and eight industrial fire brigades. …
