First Community Safety Academy.(News)

Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service came under the spotlight at this year's Local Government Association Conference with a special video presentation highlighting the success of the UK's first Community Safety Academy.

The video, Putting out Fires--A Degree of safety at Northumberland's Newest Academy, was transmitted at the Harrogate conference by hbl media over a network of plasma screens for LGA TV.

It explained how the academy has embraced multi-agency working to ensure effective delivery of a wide range of health, safety and social education to all members of the community.

Working with numerous statutory and voluntary partners, including Blyth Community College, the academy aims to raise awareness of not only fire safety, but also more diverse community concerns including drugs and alcohol misuse, accident prevention in the home, crime reduction and home security, citizenship and sexual health. …
