CFO Ken Knight, West Midlands Fire Service, has been appointed the new London Fire Commissioner.

Mr Knight, aged 56, became the chief of West Midlands in 1998 having previously served as ACO in London, DCFO in Devon and CFO in Dorset.

He will be taking over the responsibility for fire and emergency planning for the capital at an important time both with heightened risk and the modernisation of the Fire Service.

Ken Knight joined Surrey Fire Brigade as a Ff in 1966, after a short excursion in banking and progressed through the ranks until being appointed ACO (Technical Services) of London in 1987.

Mr Knight was appointed DCFO of Devon Fire and Rescue Service in 1991, during which time he was responsible for brigade operations and actively involved in a restructure of the brigade. …
