* Lincolnshire County Council was making plans to cut its establishment by 36 full time firemen and to shelve plans for the new station tot Spalding. The Home Secretary decreed that time spent on strike should not be deducted from any qualifying service for the LSGC medal and during a half hour Adjournment Debate in the House of Commons, it was stated that the two sides would shortly meet to discuss the implementation of the 42-hour week.

* Avon's new Decontamination Unit was busy, in the space of seven days it had been involved with 90 tons of hydrochloric acid spilled, which overflowed the bund wall and made a vapour cloud, then an incident with aluminium chloride gassing off in a trailer park. While a goods train was passing through Gloucester, a railway guard noticed that one of the containers was leaking. …
