Symposium exposes flaws in terrorism response; the annual US/UK Fire Service Symposium once again brought together leaders to brainstorm progressive operational techniques and management expertise, but this year led to general disappointment in developments post 9/11. (UK/US Symposium).

The US/UK Fire Service Symposium was this year held in Plymouth, Devon, carrying the theme of maritime firefighting, supported by a wide array of topics, from fire engineering and firefighting, the modernisation agenda in the UK Fire Service to occupational health and fitness.

Developments in UK offshore firefighting arrangements were detailed by CFO Alan Riddet and will further be discussed at the WaterSafe seminar on June 3-4 (see May, FIRE preview). Similarly CFO David O'Dwyer gave an incisive precis of the industrial dispute, complemented by CFO Doug Mackay's description of the Bain Report.
