Attila Ambrus is the most popular man in Hungary, reports Claude Kovac in Liberation of Paris. He is not a movie star, but a bank robber, known as the "whiskey robber." Ambrus was arrested in January in Budapest after his 27th holdup, when he went home to get his dog before fleeing the country. He had stolen more than half a million dollars during the last six years without firing a shot--and always with a touch of class. He frequently gave flowers to the female cashiers at the banks he robbed. And before each heist, he would sample a fine whiskey at a nearby bar. …
