SEATTLE - Mike Morse had the highest June batting average ever for a Mariners rookie.

That was then, this is July.

"The first month is over now," the 6-foot-4 shortstop said. "I've just got to play. I can't look at the past; I have to look at the future. I have to go out and keep on going. Whatever happened in the past, you can't correct or change. You've just got to keep looking ahead and try to help the team win."

The latter has not been happening often: Seattle is last in the American League West at 35-47, but Morse has done his part to help the Mariners during his five weeks on the roster.

Morse was recalled from Class AAA Tacoma on May 31 and had 30 hits in 84 at-bats …
